Traditionally, federal tax returns are due on April 15 or the first business day thereafter if the 15th is on a weekend or holiday. When we file an extension, this grants us up to six months to get the necessary information to finalize and complete your return. There are several reasons we may file an extension, but this is no cause for concern. If additional information is needed from you, we will contact you. There is no penalty to you when an extension is filed. Although there is no penalty for filing an extension, this extension of time to file does not grant you an extension of time to pay your taxes. You should pay any owed taxes by your regular deadline to help avoid possible penalties.
